Docents and Greeters

Docents and greeters are always needed: for our regular hours – Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays afternoons, 1 to 4 pm, and for school and other tours. Docent workshops and other educational materials are available to prepare for leading tours, as is the opportunity to work with other docents. Docenting opportunities are also available at the Boogersburg school.

Gardening

We welcome volunteer help with the Mansion's gardens and grounds – light but essential gardening to keep this historic facility beautiful for visitors. Thanks to the Centre Furnace Mansion garden committee and Penn State Master Gardeners, there are many ongoing garden-related projects, as well as regularly scheduled gardening times.

Stocking Stuffer Antique & Craft Sale Committee

The Stocking Stuffer show is a new fundraising event held the first weekend of December to raise money for the Furnishings committee. Local artisans and antique dealers display items to sell throughout the festively decorated Mansion. The event is preceded by an elegant preview party reception. Many volunteers are needed to help with this event!

Education and Program Planning

CCHS has a busy schedule of programs and other activities, but there is always a need for fresh ideas and fresh energies. Are there subjects, or speakers, or special events you would like to see scheduled? If so, please considering joining the Program or Education Committee. Program Committee goals are to offer monthly programs, that can be varied or tied to a single theme, and often include tours to county locations. Sometimes they are offered in conjunction with a current Centre Furnace Mansion exhibit, or to coincide with research from a state-funded grant.

In addition, several special events are held each year. They include: A Victorian Easter Egg Hunt, Plant Celebration at the Mansion, Old-Fashioned Independence Day Celebration, Stocking Stuffer Antique & Craft Sale, Preservation Awards Night and Annual Meeting. Do let us know if you would like to volunteer to help with any of these events.

Office Work

Data entry, image scanning, and reorganizing files are some of our current needs. Volunteers can work as many hours as they wish. Every bit helps!
