After winter and before most of the bulbs begin to bloom, the landscape at CFM is littered with fallen sticks and branches, leftover leaves from the fall and tired looking mulch. So, as you might imagine, we were very appreciative to be included in “Spring Up Day” hosted by Penn State’s We Are Campaign! Over 20 Student Volunteers came throughout the day to rake, carve out a garden bed under the main Centre Furnace Mansion sign on College Avenue, mulch and pick up many branches. It was hard work and everyone pitched in cheerfully and did a great job sprucing up the Centre Furnace Mansion grounds!
A special thank you to Jeffrey Dice, Arborist and Supervisor of Grounds Maintenance, for his generosity in coordinating volunteers to help out in the gardens. And special thank yous to Centre Furnace Mansion Garden Committee Volunteers Jan Villastrigo, Judy Heberling, Beverly Harader, Melanie Bernier, Jo Merrill and Katie Frieden for helping to guide efforts on this day.
